Economic
Before the Revolution the thirteen colonies were economically stable, they had a few restrictions, like the Navigation Acts, but they were not as enforced as Mercantilism would be in the near future.
Before the American Revolution the 13 colonies had their own economy. The seven year long French Indian War caused Britain to lose a lot of money and they decided to tighten the strings on the colonists. Britain created laws that restricted the lifestyle of the colonists. But before all these laws were created and enforced, similar regulations were applied but not imposed as harshly. In the 1600's, Parliament passed Navigation Acts which regulated colonial trade and manufacturing. This was basically the start of mercantilism but it was not as enforced. Due to the Navigation Acts smuggling was very common and the colonists did not consider it a crime (E. Ellis, 158). Even prominent colonists gained part of their wealth from smuggled products. These restrictions supposedly made the colonists unable to trade but the limitations were not nearly as enforced as mercantilism would be the next years. Overall before the the Revolution Britain kept tabs on the colonists but they were not enforcing all the rules that they would later on.
